Essentially all the functions of the PIXY catalogue look-up are
available with a much larger set of catalogues using the Strasbourg VizieR
utility:

It does not of course contain the suspected variables in Kato-san's 'newvar'
file, but it does have the various large star-lists that are included there.
VizieR has the advantage of being constantly maintained and updated, and
best of all, all the data are on someone else's machines! Response is
very fast, with a search of 3500 catalogues taking only ~30 seconds.
As an example, the star HadV100 was readily identifiable in Vizier as
corresponding to a red 2MASS object, and in GSC-2.2 and USNO-A2.0.
Comined with the graphical interface of 'Aladin', also from the
Strasbourg data center, you have a pretty complete star-chart package that
is updated daily.
