[vsnet-chat 5146] Re: [vsnet-gcvs 169] (fwd) [vsnet-id 599] Re: GCVS errors for CVs

There are several reasons for this, apart from wanting to spend my time
doing other things: the lists were originally put up in LaTeX for the IBVS,
and stripping out all the LaTeX mark-up is a pain in the butt; the resulting
IBVS issues are on-line, meaning you can download a simple ASCII file
with the lists; the relevant IBVS reports can be obtained on CD-ROM, again
amenable to being put in whatever format you like; finally, it is my
understanding that the IBVS files will made available "any day now" via the
Strasbourg VizieR---they are assigned a catalog item number (IV/23), but
the files are not yet prepared (not my job!).
I note also that all the Kinnunen & Skiff star positions are loaded
into SIMBAD. Thus I see no reason to post the lists to vsnet: they are
already available in several ways on-line!

That said, I confess also to having a huge bundle of lists from Timo
that I have not dealt with. I do wish to check things myself carefully
against current catalogues (not all readily available to Timo), and simply
to look for goofs of all sorts (I'm very impressed with what Timo's done,
but he's a human being, too!). My hope is that no one will have to go
through all this again, beyond perhaps the GCVS folks making a final check
for themselves, a job that I hope can be made much easier/faster for our
having done things carefully at our end.
