I'm pretty sure they tend to work semi-differentially, measuring
off the nearest E-region standards with a single-channel photometer, and
assuming transformation coefficients from previous observations. I don't
think Mount John/Lake Tekapo is a wonderful photometric site, which
forces them to work this way often.
I'd love to do this sort of thing myself---will you pay me to live
in Chile, Arne?
