[vsnet-chat 4805] Re: Variable star charts for southern observers

In looking over the list of new charts, I noticed that Groot et al. have
an approximate V sequence for GS Pav:

1998A&A...340L..31G: GROOT P.J., AUGUSTEIJN T., BARZIV O., and
    VAN PARADIJS J. <Astron. Astrophys., 340, L31-L34 (1998)>
The eclipsing cataclysmic variable GS Pavonis: Evidence for disk
      radius changes.

...which might be compared to the UCAC1 photometry. The relevant table is
available on-line:

http://link.springer.de/link/service/journals/00230/papers/8340002/2300l31/sc2.htm#sc2.

I think you can get to that without having a subscription.
Also, the x-ray sources were not readily identifiable in the literature.
It is best to use complete names for such objects (don't abbreviate the
abbreviations):

RXJ0640-2423 = PU CMa = RX J0640.7-2423
RXJ0643-2052 = 1RXS J064359.1-205234
RXJ1155.4-564 = RX J1155.4-5641

Note that the chart for RXJ0643-2052 marks the wrong object as the variable,
which is not readily visible on the UK Schmidt J plate, and is located about
20" west-northwest of the mag. 18 star indicated. This presumes that the
mag. 11 Astrographic Catalogue object is the CV---it certainly matches the
RXS position very closely!
