[vsnet-chat 4168] BO Mus and RX Lep Tentative Periods.

Hi Sebastian and All,

Re vsnet-chat 4159, 4162 and 4163, I have eyeballed my old hand written
visual observations obtained with 10x50mm binoculars for these two stars
and find the following:

BO Mus.
Overall magnitude range 5.7 to 7.1 and as Sebastian notes, there are lots
of ups and downs in the data. Maximum seem to average near 89.5 days over
48 probable cycles, about one third of the proposed 285 day period.
Individual cycles range between 70 and 120 days. Minimum average near 90.2
days over 47 cycles with a similar 70 to 130 day range. Some cycles show a
larger amplitude than others. I have not checked my more recent computer
records but from memory BO Mus has been generally fainter in recent years.

RX Lep.
Publications No10 of the VSS RASNZ notes this star as an irregular variable
of magnitude range 5.4 to 6.7 and possible period near 323 days. This was
based on observations over a relatively short 902 day interval. In Publ.
No18 over 3900 days a magnitude range of 5.1 to 7.0 is given and periods
62.5 days for maximum and 70.2 for minimum, indicating a longer time span
gives a better indication of its true behaviour.

Eyeballing my hand written observations over 14 years between 1982 and 1995
suggest a 90.9 day period over 53 cycles with a range of 60 to 110 days.
Minimum suggests a 90.1 day period over 50 cycles with the same 60 to 110
day range. A magnitude range of 5.7 to 7.2 is apparent but some cycles
have a greater aplitude and at time there seems to be little variation at
all. Observations through to the present indicate a similar behaviour.

From this it would appear both BO Mus and RX Lep are SRC type variables.

Trust this is of interest.
