Could be possible. But the brightness of the precursor would be too
bright for such short-period helium CVs (if so, the object should be
a very nearby one, which seemingly contradicts with the lack of a large
proper motion and the likely existence of interstellar absorption).
However, this possibility could be a variety of "helium novae", which
are only theoretically predicted, and would be a candidate for explaining
V445 Pup. (see the PS. part of vsnet-campaign-nova 129). To my knowledge,
there is no known prediction of outburst spectra for such objects.
