Dear Friends:
Below is some sad news in two messages from
Peter Hingley, Librarian of the Royal Astronomical Society.
John.
=============================================================
Dear Fellows, Friends, Library Users, and
Miscellaneous,
Just a quick line to say that I gave just heard from John
Woodruff
that George Alcock of Peterborough, serial comet and
nova
discoverer, died 'last week' ( I do not have a date, or any
further information, at present.) A sad loss.
Yours sincerely
Peter D Hingley
=============================================================
Reference my last message I gather that Mr Alcock
died
on 15 December, aged 88. The funeral will be at
Peterborough Crematorium at 1500 on Friday
(22nd) and there
will be a memorial service later. Many
thanks to Tony Angel,
Jacqueline Mitton, and Guy Hurst (
of The Astronomer) for this
information.
