Ref. : vsnet-chat 3764, 3765, 3775, 3779 In order to illustrate the chapter "Distance of a cepheid" in "Astronomie : methodes et calculs" (Astronomy : methods and calculations) by Agnes Acker and Carlos Jaschek, I observed visually delta Cephei from september to december 1979. From only 82 visual observations and 5 photovisual measurements made by Dietmar Bohme, I obtained a period of 5,373920 d using the method described by Cuno Hoffmeister in "Veranderliche Sterne" (1970). The difference between this result and the period in GCVS is about 10 minutes : a more intensive and longer series of observations would, of course, have a better result ! E.
