Hi, variable star observers:
With the support of the LIADA
(Liga Iberoamericana de Astronom), I'm presenting a visual experiment
intended for knowing how much better visual estimates are under optimal
conditions. (Specially, I mean a good sequence). It's a kind of AAVSO
"V-Experiment" but with the colors of the stars plotted. I want to know how
observers behave KNOWING that they have to make an estimate with different
colored-stars. I believe that much of the great discrepances between
observers arise from not knowing how different the eye responses according
to color. And this doesn't mean that blue stars appear brighter than the red
ones. It all depends on how they are looked. I've posted some comments
regarding this topic in the experiment's web page.
This will be very useful for a
future charts and sequences revision.
This experiment is for
Southern observers since the chosen area is near 18h 23m -42, between
Scorpius, Telescopium and Corona Australis.
I'd appreciate all your
contributions and I'll let you know the general results.
The experiment is not
intended for an exhaustive analyse but to have a general idea of how much
error can be reduced by using better parameters in the charts.
