[vsnet-chat 3324] Re:[Vsnet-chat 3323] LS 5039 - "galactic microquasar"?

Dear Taichi,
The brief note on LS 5039 is a little puzzling. The designation clearly
comes from the _Catalogue of Luminous Stars in the Southern Milky Way_,
(Stephenson and Sanduleak 1971). The ids. you give show the star to be a
normal B3Ib supergiant.
The description as a "galactic microquasar" is a contradiction. There is
nothing micro about a quasar, nor is any to be found close to plane of the
Milky Way, like the stars in the LS catalogue. Perhaps the term
"microquasar', unsatisfactory as it is,
was a quick short-hand way of describing some other phenomenon. If so, what
is the phenomenon? Further information is requested, please.
The term "microquasar" is best avoided.
Cheers,
Mati
