UU Pyx is listed in the GCVS as a faint Mira type variable with no epoch
for maximum light and no period. Details from the GCVS are :
08h 41m 06s -34d 54' (1950)
Maximum 13.8ptg
Minimum <15.5ptg
Spectrum : ME
This star is situated about 9 arcmin NW of Alpha Pyx and is plotted on
chart 1121 of the VSS RASNZ for NSV4223, a star which was mentioned in
earlier vsnet-chat. As the GCVS has no epoch or period, I have been
monitoring the plotted position since February this year.
At the plotted position of UU Pyx there is a star of magnitude 14.5 with
two slightly fainter stars a little to either side and north. No change in
brightness has been noted in these during the past three months.
However, plotted on chart 1121 is a magnitude 13 star some 80 acrsec east
and 60 arcsec south of the star shown as UU Pyx (4mm east and 3mm south on
chart 1121). This star has been invisible and fainter than 14.5 to 15.0
from February through mid May. It has now become visible near magnitude
14.5 on May 22 and 26.
I suspect this star may be the true UU Pyx and plan to keep monitoring both
positions through to the end of the current observing season.
Can anyone confirm or add to this suspician?
Many thanks and regards
