     The position appears to be due to Pederson et al., which was published
on IAUC 3858 in 1983, which you can read here:

Note that the xra-ray object is just 8" northwest of the mag. 12 Berto
mentions.  Apparently this ID was conformed in later outbursts (see
IAUC 5512 --- replace the appropriate digits in the above URL).
