Brian Skiff, in vsnet-chat 2787, raises a question about the
identification of V915 Sgr.
The original Luyten plate pair for this field in Sagittarius shows a
star marked as a variable at position (2000) 18 41 32.59 -29 04
03.6
There is no other variable marked on the plate pair in the area, so I
assume this is the one that was given the designation HV 9509,
and is V 915 Sgr. One must assume that Luyten in the AN article
(261, 454, 1936) made an error in reading the coordinates off the
chart. I do not know if a correction was published subsequently.
The position above agrees with the finding chart of Herbig (PASP
70, 605, 1958).
I thank G. Williams for doing the astrometry.
