[vsnet-chat 2797] Re:V915 Sgr

Some more thoughts on the problem of V915 Sgr.
Is it not possible that the true variable reported by Luyten (range
stated by him as 12.3 to 13.5p) is the recent discovery by Misao, MisV0562 =
GSC 6870.01256? The
range of this star is 11.8-13.8C which is not too dissimilar. No finder
chart was available for the Luyten star prior to 1958, apparently, and
Herbig's work (PASP 70,605)
actaully uncovered a quite different variable (GSC 6870.00090), and all
subsequent identifications have centred on this star, whose behaviour is
consistent with an RCB star. The period (285.2d) could well refer to
MisV0562, should this turn out to be a
low-amplitude SR variable.
I have'nt access to some of the old literature, and obviously
someone needs to follow the paper trail to sort things out. Given the
approximate nature of Luyten's coordinates, MisV0562 seems to be a plausible
candidate for Luyten's variable.

Mati
