Looks like my weather has gone back to bad, and so has my luck. My
difficulty with the field of TMZv85 was partly due to identifying the
wrong pair of stars (and north orientation!) to match to Arne's image
and then nothing else looked right. As a result only a fraction of my
frames have the variable in them. Arne had to find the variable in my
images for me! Usually I don't have that type of problem.
The reason for the short exposures is simple: I have a terrible mount
that doesn't permit longer exposures and no guiding mechanism. I have
parts for a second camera that I will use to guide the telescope, but
have been so busy this winter I haven't had a chance to put it
together. Once I get it together and develop a mechanical system for
guiding motions and the electronic guide circuitry (e.g., a variable
frequency power supply for RA), I'll put them on the telescope
(probably a piece at a time) and will be able to increase exposures.
So the scope just tracks merrily along at its own pace and direction
for the time being. Most of the time everything is fine, but once in
a while it goes crazy. It is painted yellow, and must think of itself
as a blond.>
