Hi,
Half May I reported V3462 Sgr bright at magn 13.8. It stayed like that
for at least a week (and probably longer). It was then stated that
this star has been like that for some time, not variable and therefore
unlikely = V3462 Sgr. I dropped the star from my target list. I am not
sure if I mentioned it at the time but the star looked distinctly
reddish, not at all like a cv (a subjective and possibly wrong
impression...).
Yesterday Rod Stubbings asked me to have a look again as this same
star seemed to have become fainter.
My observation tonight (magn 14.7) confirms exactly that. The star has
faded over about 1 magnitude.
I now think this star is probably a LPV. Possibly it is = V3462 Sgr
and another case of preliminary misclassification similar to that of
AF Sco and V2323 Sgr.
To identify the star: it is visible on the DSS image as the Western
star of a faint double at the SIMBAD given location.
Best regards,
Berto Monard
