In VSNET-chat 1559, Dr. Kato wrote that he learned comet Williams was discovered during the variable star observing. Our colleague Michel Verdenet, wich lives and observes in Bourbon-Lancy, a little town in the centre of France, observed R CrB in crisis (mv 13.0) at September 2, 1977 around 20h TU. Then he would observe S CrB, but bumped and depointed his telescope. He found a nebulosity located between eta and omicron CrB. But he could not verify the reality of the object this evening because Corona Borealis was low near the horizon and a tree disturbed the observation. Then, from sept 3 to sept 6, the sky was clouded and Michel forgot the event. The little nebulosity was rhe comet discovered by Kohler the 3th september ... and Michel was not the discoverer of a comet ! In 1923 (?) our portuguese observer Arturo Bernard discovered a comet during the variable star observing. E. Schweitzer - AFOEV
