Sala" <g.sala@skylink.it> Subject: [vsnet-chat 0] Re: SN 1998eb in NGC 1961 Dear friends: according to Stefano's observation time (Aug 26.9 UT) ngc1961 was fairly low on the horizon (<30deg) with an atmospheric extinction of 0.4 mag. Should sn1998eb have reached its maximum peak in the 15-15.5 range, it would have been very difficult to be spotted visually by an instrument with a limiting mag of 15.8, yet due to the fact this sn is located in a bright arm of the host galaxy. A CCD unfiltered image which I have taken at CAM Observatory, Promiod, Italy on Sep 24.16 UT shows sn1998eb @ m=18.1 (see attached Jpeg image). This shows that sn1998eb would have not been brighter than 16 mag at its maximum peak. Clear skies! Dr. Giuseppe A.
