Re: "V Magnitude" Experiment - 1998 Thanks to Lance Shaw, I have been able to obtain all the neceesary files for the AAVSO V Magnitude Experiment 1998. The essence seems to be the calibration of the eye using a set of stars having different colors, without a priori knowledge of the magnitude information. It ssems to be the field of R Sct may be another ideal choice: the field is located close to the equator, periodically affected by the moonlight, able to be affected by the large air-mass, and observable by a wide variety of instruments ranging from binoculars (or naked eyes) to low-power telescopes. Fortunately, well-used chart of R Sct has known to contain large errors against photoelectric measurements. Observers can safely disregard all the magnitude specified by the chart, and report by steps how the eye perceives the difference between comparisons and other stars in the field. What about this idea? Regards, Taichi Kato
