Returning back to history, there has been no formal discussion on chart
format. The present VSNET chart format can date back to 1993 (or earlier),
when I decided to provide them as by-products of my CCD observations.
So the format was originally pretty "in situ", rather than well-considered
out. I chose the "CCD detection output"-like format in order to minimize
the conversion efforts from the original CCD images. I usually do adjusting
magnitude offsets, rejecting some noises (when possible). I might have
been merging multi-band observations, but I preferred producing more charts
(the number of electric charts was only too limited then). Since the
establishment of VSNET (1994), the format has been taken over.
I once has a personal discussion with Fraser Farrell on possible inclusion
of the chart scale. At that time, I replied that I don't know whether all
available VSNET chart viewers can properly treat additional header line(s).
I think this may be easily tested now (knowing different persons use different
viewers), and if all existing viewers are proven to robust to these changes,
it may be a good option to add header item(s).
Yes, there may be a lot to be considered at the times of modern technology
than in 1993.
