[vsnet-chat 775] location of SN 1998T

Dear Sirs,

I guess there are some confusions about the location of SN 1998T in
IC 694. It should be made clear so that the observer can make the
correct photometry (or visual magnitude estimate) or other
observations.

In the image of SN 1998T on ISN page, the line points out the
brightest point of the irregular galaxy Arp 299; but this is a nucleus
of NGC 3690, which is the western part of Arp 299. The host galaxy of
SN 1998T, i.e. IC 694, is the eastern part of this irregular galaxy,
and is shown as a fainter glow leftside of the brightest knot. SN
1998T is the more fainter object than the host galaxy; it locates the
south of the brightest part of IC 694.

Some reports shows that this SN is very brighter than other reports.
Please check whether you are observing the exactly SN or not.

Sincerely yours,
Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan.
