In response to Rudolf's queries about supernovae:
1) It is probably no longer overwhelmingly important to get lightcurves
of bright SNe, but often it will not be observed at all unless a student/
professional group decides to monitor it.
2) It is a certainty that there are SNe to be found on the POSS prints.
Many have been found on the old POSS-I prints by Jean Mueller while she
searched the new POSS-II plates for supernovae. Dozens are already
reported in the literature. They certainly exist in other plate
collections as well.
