[vsnet-chat 668] RXJ 0558.0+5353

                 RXJ 0558.0+5353

Periodic variations of the circular polarization were detected at 1997
October,4 at the Shajn 2.6m telescope of the Crimean Astrophysical
Observatory with a period P=0.006301+-.000055 days (544.4+-4.8 sec)
and semi-amplitude of 1.80+-0.16 per cents. Observations were made
with one-channel polarimeter with fast rotating achromatic quater-wave
plate and broad red filter (0.500-0.750 nm). Variation of the circular
polarization are sinusoidal with changing of the polarity.
The photometric variations of the same run show the variability with a
period P=.003592+-.000012. However, the peaks at the periodogram are
accompanied by the aliases, one of which corresponds to the double
frequency (P=.003120+-.000012 d =  269.5+-1.0 s) and the amplitude
0.035+-.003 mag. This period is very near to the period 272.785 sec,
detected by Ashoka et al.(A&A,1995,297,L83) in white light and period
272.74 sec which was found by Haberl et al.(A&A,1994,291,171) in X-ray.
Light maximuma are coincided with the exstrema positive and negative
circular polarization. Photometric observations at the same night at
1.25 m telescope show the next UBVRI Johnson magnitudes: U=13.29;
B=13.98; V=13.91; R=13.49; I=13.31.
The possible interpretation is the rotation of the magnetized white
dwarf with the period 545 s and accretion columns perpendicular to the
rotational axis which have the same structure and luminosity (within
2the error estimates) but opposite polarity of the magnetic field.
