I have just managed to discover the chapter of a book on this comet.
It was Comet 1936b (Kaho-Kosik-Lis). Kaho, at Tokyo Astronomical Observatory,
discovered this comet on 1936 July 17, when he tried to observe R LMi after
the evening twilight. Kaho wrote he started observing variable stars just
one month prior to this discovery. Kaho was one of the leading variable star
observers in Japan, whose book on variable stars is still widely read by
amateurs (no good books in Japanese since ..)

I wonder how many of us (especially in our country) can observe the next
return of this comet without help of electronic devices. Hoping Hale-Bopp
will not become the last comet seen by unaided eyes.
