[vsnet-chat 425] DL Peg identity

Ole Klinting recently wrote concerning the fact that DL Peg is identical with
GSC 1721 231. This is correct. AAVSO has had a chart of DL Peg since 1967
identifying it with that star. In checking the same situation with Guide 5.0 I
went a bit further and got the extra data on the star. There two magnitudes
and two slightly different positions are given, since the star appears on 2
Palomar plates. Because of the large difference in magnitude between the two
plates the GSC calls the star a "non-star".

I looked at the field a half hour or so ago, and estimate it at magnitude 13.3
using our sequence - which is not very good. We have a 15.2 star that is
probably 14.2, and the rest of the sequence is probably off in the same way. I
am redrawing our charts in our new computer generated format. I don't know
what we will do about the sequence.

As far as IR Gem is concerned, it suffers from an error in the GCVS position
too. Our earliest charts had it misplaced. When it had an outburst we were
able to place it properly. At that time we had no way to get an astrometric
position. Downes & Shara have published the following position: (J2000) RA 6h
47m34.65s, Dec +28o 06' 21.6" which agrees with Ole's.

Charles Scovil, AAVSO
