Hi,
In some literature symbiotic stars (Z And type) are defined as
systems consisting of a red giant and a hot blue star. According
to other texts those systems consist of a red giant and a white
dwarf. In both definitions the stars are in close orbit and
nebulosity is one of the results from the interaction between them.
My question: which description is the most recent (presumably
correct) one? or do they apply both? A hot blue star is not
necessarily a white dwarf, or was it meant to be one?
Regards,
Berto Monard,
