Probably no, since the nova ejecta may be too thick at this moment.
V838 Her (Nova Her 1991) was about 5 mag below the optical maximum when
the first eclipse was caught.

I suppose novae in the direction of the Galactic center tend to fade
more rapidly than higher galactic lattitude novae. Isn't this the very
region under surveillance by Liller?

Sorry, the chart has been drawn from GSC. The pixel seeming a nova
is a mark I added to indicate the position.
