I think it would be best to allow your variable star organization to worry about that. They could study your past observations compared to the mean to derive any corrections, if needed (as Taichi has been demonstrating lately). You might do more harm than good by applying your own home-brewed corrections (unless you report the correction applied). It's the people who have the most data that are best in a position to study this. Just be sure to use standardized charts, however imperfect they may be. Whatever small errors you make, there's someone out there making the opposite error. Quantity, as someone once said, has a quality all its own. I believe the quote was applied to the Red Army, but it holds for variable star observing too.
