Most MIRA stars appear to pulsate in the first overtone mode. There are
several excellent papers dealing with it using ground-based interferometric
data from major observational facilities.
M.L.Lattanzi, M.W.Feast, P.A.Whitelock and myself have recently used the
Hubble Space Telescope to investigate the diameter of some oxygen-rich
Miras (R Leo, W Hya) and have found excellent arguments supporting
pulsation in the first overtone (ApJ in press).
