# Berto, please refrain from sending everything to vsnet-alert.

Subject: [vsnet-alert 7900] V551 Sgr observations at CBA Pretoria

The rarely outbursting dwarf nova V551 Sgr was monitored on 21-22 Sep 2003
at CBA Pretoria, after an alert was sent out by R Stubbings.
V551 Sgr is considered a possible member of the ugwz class.

The recorded light curve only shows low amplitude modulations at this stage
(second night of outburst). Further observations are planned with
anticipation of more 'action'. The mean magnitude over the run duration
was 14.2CR (UCAC1 traceable).

Astrometry against UCAC1, shows V551 Sgr East and North of the position,
published in the on-line CV atlas and other catalogues and databases.

The updated position (which precision can be improved on):

18 00 56.53 -33 35 45.5 (2000)

Follow up observations at other sites ought to be encouraged. I just hope
the weather holds here after the passing of an antarctic front...

Run data will be reported on separately.
