True identification of SY Cir (correction to the previous suggestion) Through a discussion based on Rod Stubbings' finding, and with Berto Monard's photometry, I noticed that my previous suggestion with the ROSAT identification was probably wrong. This was because I used different coordinates (new GCVS ones for checking ASAS-3 data, old identification for checking ROSAT identification). The present SIMBAD entry does not correctly refer to the GCVS position. The true SY Cir is (as correctly designated in the most recent GCVS online edition): GSC9248.773 140333.83 -693753.7 (2000.0) 11.56 6 This star shows alternating minima, which seems to confirm the original RV Tau classfication. The period is stable, and my earlier suggestion as a CN Ori-like dwarf nova is likely invalid. The ROSAT source is possible idenitical with: GSC9248.841 140344.95 -693731.1 (2000.0) 12.28 6 This star does not show remarkable variation in the ASAS-3 data. Regards, Taichi Kato
