GZ Cnc outburst on Jan. 15 Dear Colleagues, When analyzing the recent data arrived from Torii-san (RIKEN), we noticed that GZ Cnc underwent an outburst on January 15. The most notable feature during this outburst was the presence of 0.15-mag modulations. The modulations seem to have a characteristic time-scale of ~2 hr, which is close to the orbital period. No strong short-term variations, whcih were prominent during the past outbursts, were observed. These finding may indicate that the characteristics of the Jan. 15 were different from those of the other outbursts. Since GZ Cnc has apparently faded since this outburst, it should not have been a superoutburst. It is, however, possible that this outburst bore some features of a precursor-type outburst preceding a real superoutburst (superhumps were recorded in several systems during precursor outbursts). As judged from the outburst cycle length, the next outburst of GZ Cnc is expected to occur within a few days, possibly even on tonight. Further continous observations are encouraged.
