UV Gem further observation from Jochen Pietz: period evolution Dear Colleagues, We have received further data from Jochen Pietz (Jan. 8-9). The data still clearly show full-amplitude superhumps. A combined analysis of the Jan. 7-9 data has yielded a mean period of 0.0940 d. The new result indicates that the period is rapidly varying! We have also successful covered the earlier part of Jan. 8; after analyzing these data, will we be able to exactly tell the process how the period change took place. However, there is already evidence that the evolution of the superhump period in UV Gem strongly deviates from the "textbook" evolution of the SU UMa-type superhumps. Such a deviation may be related to the borderline tidal instability. UV Gem would become a key object in studying the superhumps in extreme conditions. Regards, Taichi Kato VSNET Collaboration team
