Bruce asked if I had any comments regarding the quiescent photometry. I don't subscribe to vsnet-campaign-dn, and the archive does not yet include #585 and so I cannot comment directly on that posting. However, I have placed on http://ftp.nofs.navy.mil/pub/outgoing/aah/temp/iyumav.jpg a 4.5x4.5arcmin postage stamp from the V-band image on the faint night, centered on the variable. As you can see, IY UMa is a close (~3arcsec) double. The variable appears to be the SW component of the double. The V=18.3 magnitude is the combined light from both components, and appears to be correct for this night (though note the large Poisson errors), but is an upper limit on the true quiescent magnitude. As a guide, the star about 40arcsec SW is V=17.6, and the one 60arcsec east is V=17.9. Arne (p.s. if you want me to comment on anything, be sure to do what Bruce did and carbon-copy any message directly to my adr. I only subscribe to -alert and -chat.)
