[vsnet-alert 7052] HV Vir: fading stopped!

HV Vir: fading stopped!

Dear Colleagues,

We have received new data from Lew Cook. We are also analyzing new
Kyoto observations.

The most recent data indicate that the steady fading trend has almost
stopped! The light curve is now dominated by large superhumps.

This change may be a precursor to a sudden, global change in the
outbursting accretion disk (dip?, rebrightening?). Please observe this
star as closely as possible.

As in the case of WZ Sge, we will be happy to perform PSF photometry
of raw images (please save them in FITS format), in case any conventional
software fails to detect the star when the object became fainter.
Please continue observing the star until the final quuiescence (about 19 mag)
is reached. You don't need to waste your telescope time on other lower
priority targets, as long as HV Vir is observable. No one observed
the final stage of HV Vir outburst in 1992 to a considerable extent;
even the existence of rebrightening(s) was not yet confirmed.
Be the first person to witness the presumed rebrightening of this star,
and the first person to record the late evolution of its superhumps!

Further reports will be issued in vsnet-campaign-hvvir.

Regards,
Taichi Kato
