Peculiar variable in Monoceros: radio observations

Dear colleagues,

we observed the peculiar variable in Monoceros with the Very Large Array
on 11 and 12 January 2002. Although we do see a 0.5 mJy source at 8.5 GHz,
it lies about 5 arcsec east and 8 arcsec north of the reported optical
position. The radio position is derived from that of the VLBI source
J0725-0054, and the systematic uncertainty should be of order 0.1-0.2 arcsec.
The random error is +/- 1-2 arcsec in each coordinate.

  VLA observing log:
    RA 07 04 05.14 DEC -03 50 43.1 (J2000)

    11 Jan. 2002 4860.1 MHz nada +/- 0.12 mJy
    11 Jan. 2002 8460.1 MHz 0.490 +/- 0.055 mJy

    12 Jan. 2002 8460.1 MHz 0.574 +/- 0.045 mJy
    12 Jan. 2002 14939.9 MHz nada +/- 0.30 mJy

It would be very unusual to find an unrelated 8.5 GHz source so near to an a
priori position; not impossible, but surprising. Further radio observations are
scheduled, and should provide both a better position, and more stringent
limits on variability.
