- Sender: owner-vsnet-alert@kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp
Dear SN watchers,
The Lick KAIT team has discovered a mag 16 SN, which can be reach
over mag 15. They report that the position is R.A. = 20h20m45s.47,
Decl. = -24o07'57".5 (2000.0), which is about 4" west and 16" south of
the nucleus of the barred-spiral (SB(r)b) galaxy ESO 527-G019. There
are several foreground stars around this galaxy so the identification
needs to be done carefully.
The reported brightness (169:C at Aug 9.3, 165:C at Aug 10.3)
indicate that this SN is in the rising phase. The expected maximum of
the typical SN Ia on this distance (v_r = 3117 km/s for ESO 527-G019)
is mag 14.8. Further follow-up magnitude estimates and spectral
identifications are strongly urged.
Sincerely Yours,
Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan
