[vsnet-alert 4085] SN 2000D in UGC 1767

Dear SN watchers,

As IAUC 7350 informed, SN 2000D has been discovered by UK amateur T.
Boles. As far as I know, this is 4th discovery of him.
Congratulations, Tom!

SN 2000D was discovered and confirmed on Jan. 22.928 and 24.806 UT,
respectingly. Now is about 5 days after discovery. The position
derived by the discoverer is R.A. = 2h18m04s.84, Decl. = +38o04'27".4
(2000.0), which is reported as 6" west and 11" south of the center of
UGC 1767. Looking over the discovery image
(http://vsnet.ggw.org/asras/sn2000/u1767s2.gif), the offset for westward
seems to be more small; say about 3". Also, the brightness of SN at
discovery was reported as mag 16.2, which seems more fainter on this
image (about mag 17 or so, I guess).

UGC 1767 is an irregular galaxy, which apparently has disturbed arm.
SN is overimposed on the southern arm. As Dr. Hurst, the reporter of
the discovery, says, SN locates 4-5" northwest of an H II region.

There are two foreground star southwest of UGC 1767. Offsets below
are respected to the nucleus of the galaxy.

ID offset USNO-ID rmag bmag
A 7"W,35"S 1275_01404423 16.6 17.6
B 9"W,43"S 1275_01404387 16.2 17.2

UGC 1767 makes a group with UGC 1772 and possibly with UGC 1771.
Thair resession velocities are an order of 5000 km/s, which indicate
that a typical SN Ia on this galaxy will be mag 16 or so at its
maximum. The classification and the follow-up photometry of this SN
is urged.

Sincerely Yours,
