Dear SN watchers,
IAUC 7228 reports that the U.S. amateur astronomers T. Puckett and
I. Siegert have discovered an apparent supernova (named as 1999df),
one after another SN 1999cm. The new star was discovered on July
20.16, when it was 18.2 (unfiltered CCD) magnitude.
The location of SN 1999df is: R.A. = 15h08m56s.52, Decl. =
+52o26'53".1 (2000.0), which is about 6" north of the nucleus of CGCG
274-026 = PGC 54081. No confusing field star is there. The host
galaxy seems to be a compact galaxy on DSS image.
Note that there is some galaxies in the neighbourhood of the host
galaxy: NGC 5875 (5' northeast) and PGC 54064 = MK 846 (3' west).
These two has nearly same recession velocities (\sim 3500 km/s), and
PGC 54064 seems to be the same brightness with the host. If these
three are making a group of galaxies, SN 1999df is expected to become
around 16 mag assuming it is of typical type Ia without absorption.
