Subject: Nova Mus 1998 obs and position
G'day all,
CCD astrometry earlier this morning from Stockport Observatory (MPC
station 427) yielded the following position for Nova Muscae 1998:
11h 56m 08.96s -65d 34' 20.74" (J2000)
The nova showed up well in both unfiltered and H-alpha images - see
http://vsnet.assa.org.au/vstars/nvmus98.htm. Unfortunately we don't have a
set of standard filters on hand for CCD photometry. Donations of
B,V,R,I filters to suit an ST-6 are welcome :)
My visual observations from the same location show the nova
brightening(!) this morning:
Jan 1.5625 UT 10.6
Jan 1.6042 10.4
Jan 1.6597 10.3
Jan 1.6875 10.3
The local weather bureau are forecasting cloud for the next few nights.
cheers,
Fraser Farrell
