[vsnet-alert 2031] "V Magnitude" Experiment - 1998

Dear Friends,

As a continuation of the "V Magnitude" Experiment we conducted last year,
AAVSO longtime member and observer Richard Stanton has designed a "V Magnitude"
Experiment - 1998 using the field of the cataclysmic variable SS Cygni. Its
goal is to detect the differences in the eye response of observers. We hope
that we will have a large response to this experiment from observers worldwide
who are at different levels of experience and who have a variety of
instruments.

The experiment consists of using AAVSO charts of SS Cygni with SPECIALLY
MODIFIED SEQUENCES to estimate the brightness of several specified stars in
the field, following the procedure given in the experiment instructions, and
then to submit the observations to AAVSO Headquarters, using the special
report form provided. The deadline for observations to be received at AAVSO
Headquarters is September 22, 1998.

This experiment has been sent by postal mail to our Alert Notice subscribers.
We have also placed it on our website (http://vsnet.aavso.org under What's New)
for downloading.

We very much appreciate Richard's efforts in designing this experiment; we
thank him and those others who contributed to it.

Your participation is very important to the success of this experiment, and we
look forward to receiving your observations.

Good observing!
