***** NOVA SAGITTARII 1998 *****
In IAUC 6846 William Liller (Vina del Mar, Chile) reports his
discovery and observations of a probable nova of mag. 7.8 on
exposures from 1998 Mar. 22.363-22.366 UT. He was using an
85-mm lens with an orange filter and Technical Pan film. The
object was not detected and fainter than mag. 11.5 on images
taken four days earlier. A low-resolution spectrum from Mar. 23
showed H-alpha in emission, which is characteristic of a nova.
CCD-photometry from Mar. 23.316 UT gave V=7.74.
The nova is located at R.A. = 18h21m40s.5, Decl.=-27o31'38"
(2000.0). This position is based on astrometry reported in
IAUC 6847 by S. Nakano and G. J. Garradd from CCD-exposures by
Y. Kushida, M. Aoki and Garradd.
