The objects in question are a couple of BL Lac sources- active galactic nuclei, nice and bright at about 13th mag. Specifically, they are PKS 2005-489 and PKS 2155-304. These are to be monitored at gamma-ray wavelengths by the CANGAROO telescope at Woomera, South Australia, in the new moon periods Sept-Oct and Oct-Nov (at least). There is talk also of observing another source, at about 5h RA later. I intend to undertake simultaneous CCD photometry for at least the first session, and maybe also the second, using a C14 and ST-6 at Woomera. My plan is to take time-series photometry and reduce the data differentially. From test images I have of 2005, I expect to use 40-second integrations with the R filter, at about 90-s intervals. Monitoring would be for at least a few hours each night, extending to most of the night around new moon. 2005 can stand longer than 40-s, but suitable comparison stars are few, and that time is chosen to avoid saturating on one of those in particular. Alas, I do not yet have images for 2155, but would expect something similar. We are looking for correlations between changes in the gamma-ray flux and the optical- hence high-resolution time-series. 2155 at least shows minor (less than 0.1mag) changes during a night, but can change by more than that from day to day.If we are lucky, there will be some flaring. I would be pleased if anyone would be able to take occasional images of either/both of these sources during the times mentioned. All I am looking for is a bit of filling-in of the gaps in my Woomera data. So, snapshots would be useful, though it would be preferable to do at least a short time-series to get some idea of errors. Filtered data would be best, but unfiltered would be heartily welcomed. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me. I would supply co-ords, charts, etc, as required. Data reduction need only be differential, but if people are able to supply transformation equations for their data as well, then you beaut. (Times with heliocentric correction as well?). Also, please could you let me know CCD used, fields-of-view, telescope aperture? As for credentials, I have supplied data for campaigns on Men 1, V803 Cen and HP Lib. Certainly a trickle compared with other peolpe's flows, but something at least. Regards, Paddy McGee pmcgee@physics.adelaide.edu.au http://vsnet.physics.adelaide.edu.au/~pmcgee
