independent discovery and confirmation of pos SN in M51



(Possible) Supernova in M51 (NGC 5194)

(1) Following independent discovery had been also reported.

  1994 Apr. 2.62 UT   mag 14: (difficult to measure because of the background
                               galaxy)
  located 10" east and 16" south of the nucleus
  instr 60cm f6.0 Ritchey-Chretien+CCD (unfiltered)
  observer : Y. Fujita (Kuma-Kogen observatory, Ehime, Japan)
  magnitude and position are uncertain

  communicated from K. Nakamura (Kuma-Kogen observatory)

  * He states that there was no detectable object on a frame taken last year.
    Precise position may be provided today.

  Judging from these reports, the reality of the object seems to be now
beyond doubt.  So I also forward this mail to international and local
SN observing group in the hope of getting vital initial observations.
