AB Nor is most likely an SU UMa-type dwarf nova. The last long outburst (presumably superoutburst) was observed in 2000 April, with a prominent precursor (vsnet-alert 4568, 4574, 4578, 4589, 4590, 4594, 4597).

Urgent time-series CCD photometry is extremely strongly encouraged!!

Growing superhumps!

(vsnet-alert 7461)

Dear Colleagues,

AB Nor photometry from Berto Monard

Dear Colleagues,

We have just received a set of CCD photometry of AB Nor from Berto Monard. Although the modulations are not large (mostly less than 0.1 mag), there seems to exist a detectable wave. By taking into the observed epoch, we may be witnessing the evolving stage of superhumps (or the object may be fading from a precursor?). In any case, if there are genuine superhumps in AB Nor, the superhump period seems to be relatively long. Please make intensive observations (as long as possible) to follow the evolution of the current rare outburst!

AB Nor: most probably growing superhumps!

Dear Colleagues,

We have received a new data from Peter Nelson. A CCD image from Peter Nelson has been relayed to Yamaoka-san for outburst astrometry. A combination of the Sep. 1-2 data from Peter Nelson and Berto Monard is now best explained by a phenomenon of growing superhumps. In hours or a day, we can expect a full growth of superhumps! Please keep a continous watch! The best superhump period determined from the Sep. 1-2 data is 0.0826(10) d, although other period cannot be still perfectly excluded. A phase-averaged light curve of the superhumps is placed at

Congratulations to Peter Nelson and Berto Monard! Please continue observing AB Nor, since the object is expected to show a dramatic change just now!

Taichi Kato
