Note of thanks: I would like to express my sincere thanks to my technical
assistant Rebecca Pellock who kept publishing the AAVSO News Flashes and all
the observers who contributed observations to them while I was away attending
the IAU Symposium 177 on Carbon Star Phenomenon in Turkey and visiting my
family there. The scientific program of the Symposium covering all aspects
of carbon stars was excellent. The AAVSO was well represented there with one
invited and two contributed papers and many references to the AAVSO data.
